Sport socks

Updated: Nov 9, 2021

There is one product that everyone uses, socks. Different types of socks are used during parties, hiking, special occasions and sports. A casual sock is a completely different type of sock than, for example, a winter sports sock. Yet sports socks and casual socks are getting closer and closer. Sports socks are increasingly worn instead of casual socks, especially in streetwear. But there is a lot of difference in the construction of casual socks and sports socks.

Different substances

to put the socks together, the best fabrics of the highest quality are needed. A sports sock is never made of one type of fabric, they are always combinations of several fabrics mixed together. The most commonly used materials in sports socks are Polyamide, Polypropylene and Elastane, the amount of each material in the sock differs per sports brand.

Merino Wool

Nowadays, more and more clothing products are made of Merino Wool. Merino Wool is a special type of wool. Merino Wool comes from a special kind of sheep, the Merino sheep. The Merino sheep's fur never stops growing. To prevent them from overheating in the summer, they should be sheared at least once a year. Merino wool is increasingly used in sportswear products and thermal clothing because it has many qualities that suit an active lifestyle. Merino wool is very good at retaining body heat without overheating the body. It is also very good at keeping the body dry due to its moisture-regulating and absorbent effect. Furthermore, Merino wool does not itch and has a ventilating effect.

In short: Merino wool can be used very well for sports socks, especially ski socks and snowboard socks.

Winter sports

Where socks are one of the most important items of clothing is on winter sports. At Skiing or Snowboarding, a very nice ski day can be ruined by sore or cold feet. Ski socks or snowboard socks must therefore be of good quality, this is done by using the right materials in combination with the right amount. It is also important that pressure points or 'Terry zones' are prevented as much as possible. This can be done by making certain points in the sock thicker with the ski or snowboard socks so that the sock offers more support at these places. It is also great if winter sports socks can also serve as trendy socks. When skiers or snowboarders go to the après-ski, the pants are often folded up with the socks over them, so at these times the sock is very visible. That is why skiers or snowboarders no longer want 'boring' old winter sports socks, but rather trendy socks. At BOOGY, high-quality socks are combined with fun and cheerful colors/shapes, so that skiers and snowboarders can dance on the bar with trendy socks in après-ski.
